Where are you located?
We are located on the corner of Parker Road and Airline Drive in a brown building. We are next door to Walgreens and the Pain & Recovery clinic and across the street from Kroger. You can find driving directions on our location page.
Are you open on evenings?
We are open most days until 6pm and on Saturdays. Doctor appointments are available:

What types of animals do you see?
We see cats, dogs, rabbits, snakes, most small reptiles, frogs, hamsters, ferrets, hedgehogs, hampsters, guinnea pigs and many other small animals. When you call to schedule an appointment we can answer any questions you may have.
Do you accept pet insurance?
Yes, all insurance plans will allow you to use Parker Road Animal Hospital. We will be happy to file all necessary paperwork and claims for you to get reimbursed for your visit.
Do you offer boarding services?

Can my pet get immunizations without having to see the doctor?
It is never safe to vaccinate an animal until a doctor has done a physical examination to ensure your pet is healthy enough to receive vaccines. If your pet is not healthy the vaccines could cause them to become very ill or they may not work at all because their immune system is weak from their illness.
I am looking to adopt/buy a new pet, is there anything I should do first?
The first step in adopting or purchasing a pet is research. Ensure you know all you can about the breed you are about to take into your home. Many of the animals found at the shelters are related to poor matches with the family. For example, terriers are known to be a hyperactive breed. Lots of running, barking, and jumping. If you are a quiet family seeking a lap dog this will not be a good match for you. Another example would be cocker spaniels, they need frequent grooming and maintenance for their ears. This is an additional expense many people forget about. The best place to research breed dispositions is through American Kennel Club. Even if you are adopting a mixed breed through the shelter, you can get some idea of what the breed mixes are and what this pet may be about. You can research breeds through your local pet store or even your library will have several books related to breeds of animals and their disposition.
Can I purchase dewormer over the counter?
No, the dewormers that PRAH sells are a prescription product governed by the FDA (Food & Drug Administraion). They all require a prescription and a veterinarian can not write a prescription for an animal they have not examined.
Do I have to make an appointment?
PRAH will accept walk ins during doctor appointment availability, however your wait time maybe delayed if there are appointments already scheduled. It is best to make an appointment.
Do you take emergencies?
Emergencies are welcome during doctor appointment availability. Anytime after or before business hours we refer our emergencies to Animal Emergency of Northwest Houston, their number is 281-890-8875. Should you be requiring emergency care from PRAH there is a $350 deposit when bringing your pet in. Your pet will be immediately taken to the treatment area, triaged, and stabilized by our doctors until a diagnosis and treatment plan can be prepared.
Are you open 24 hours?
Although we can hospitalized patients 24 hours per day, we do not have overnight staff available. Should you desire or require overnight supervision, your pet can be referred to a facility that can provide this care. The facilities are separate ownership and you will be required to pay for this service separate from your PRAH care.
Can I refill my Heartworm Prevention?
Heartworm Refills can only be done for those patients that have had an examination done by our doctors within the last 12 months. Additionally, PRAH must have a current heartworm test on file for your pet (within the last 12 months). General refill rules are check up 1 time per year, heartworm test 1 time per year, and your pet will be allowed enough refills to last 1 year.
Can I bring a lost, abandoned, or stray animal that I have found?
Unfortunately, veterinary clinics are not affiliated with the animal control systems in Houston City or Harris County. You have to take these animals directly to them or call. Harris County's number is 281-999-3191 or Houston City (BARC) 713-229-7300.
When should I start vaccinating my pet?
Cats and dogs should start their vaccines between the ages of 6-8 weeks or sooner if they are removed from breast feeding prior to this age.
Is Parker Road Animal Hospital just a hospital or do we see regular appointments?
Parker Road Animal Hospital is a full veterinary service primary care facitlity. We offer all available preventative care such as vaccines, spay/neuters, teeth cleanings, heartworm testing, and prescription pet foods. We are also able to handle most orthopedic needs, laparoscopic surgeries, extended hospital care, acupuncture, and much more.
Do you offer payment plans?
Preventative veterinary care must be paid for at the time service is rendered. Extensive surgical and/or hospitalization cases are handled on an individual basis. We highly recommend pet insurance, as most clients have to pre-pay for extensive medical care and costs seem to limit some pet owners ability to offer this care to their pet.
Can I just get a Rabies Vaccine for my pet?
After a complete physical examination, we will be happy to vaccinate for Rabies. There is no requirement for any other vaccines by the city, county, or state. It is highly recommended that you keep your pet up do date on other vaccines as they prevent many deadly viruses.
Do you do ear croppings?
Yes, Dr. Dayton is very happy to do an ear cropping for all breeds. Your pet needs to be 12-14 weeks of age and have the first 2 sets of vaccines done prior to scheduling the surgery. The surgery is an overnight stay is the hospital and the price depends greatly on the breed and size of your dog. Ear croppings can be done on older dogs, however you will have to have a consultation with the doctor prior to surgery. This is to ensure the cartiledge in the ear will be strong enough for the outcome you would like.
How can I find out pricing?
Although many things can not be quoted until the doctor has examined your pet, many things can. Our examination fee, consultation fee, spay/neuter, dentals, ear croppings etc... can be quoted over the phone. Please call the office and we will try to give you the prices you need.
Can I get a health certificate for my pet?
Yes, Parker Road Animal Hospital can provide you with either a domestic or international health certificate. Depending on where you travel. For travel within the US/Canada/Mexico a domestic certificate is usually enough. For travel to other countries you will want to contact the embassy for that country to establish their guidelines. Many countries require several things be done prior to issuing an international health certificate and it can take a few months to get through the process.
