Treatment Woes...

The animals ear canal is much different than that of a human. The animals ear canal is about 50% longer than a human and rather then being horizontal (straight across) it is "L" shaped. So, when you look inside of an animals ear, the canal goes down first then makes almost a 90 degree turn and goes into the head after that.

This makes treating and clearing up an ear infection rather challenging because our first line of treatment is topically. This means the owner has to get the medicine all the way into this diffcult "L" shaped canal.

Additionally, many owners have a tendency to stop medicating when they see symptoms resolve (they are getting better)in their pet.

Unfortunatly, this is not the case. By not medicating the ear properly or stopping medications to soon, owners leave a viable amount of bacteria and/or yeast in the ear to start another recurrence of infection.

The most important part is to fully understand how you are to apply the medications before you leave and make sure you get the ear rechecked after the medication treatment plan. This will ensure that you have given the best care to your pet.
